HALIFAX-The Halifax Union Society will present a series of diverse religious and spiritual gatherings every two weeks this summer beginning Monday, June 7. Topics to be covered include mindfulness, the influence of women in the English reformation, beauty in nature, and religious perspectives on national affairs. Gatherings will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a social hour at 6 p.m.
Union Society organizers say their group aims to provide inspiration for daily living and a sense of community for people who have gained from a variety of traditions and practices. The Society has hosted interdenominational religious and secular gatherings for 135 years.
On June 21, the Rev. Jon Heydenreich will lead a service focused on mindfulness. Heydenreich serves as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brattleboro and writes the Mindful Minute column in the Brattleboro Reformer. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Duke Divinity School. In recent years, his services at the Union Society have focused on finding meaningful value in each moment and making positive contributions in challenging conditions.
Upcoming events include:
• July 5: Brandeis University professor Ramie Targoff discusses the influence of women on religious practice during the English Reformation.
• July 19: Jane Wohl leads a Flower Communion service. Bring a flower to share.
• Aug. 2: Wildlife photographer Dara Carleton leads a program focused on reverence for nature.
