Historical Society of Windham County hosts annual potluck
NEWFANE — The Historical Society of Windham County invites everyone to its annual Potluck and Special Program Friday, Aug. 28, at NewBrook Fire Station on Route 30. Bring a dish to share and catch up with your neighbors and friends at the potluck at 6 p.m. Drinks will be provided.
At 6:45 p.m., a special program, “Revolutionary Westminster,” by Jessie Haas, author and president of the Westminster Historical Society, will explore the deeply conflicted and violent years when Westminster was at the center of events which helped create a free nation and today’s Vermont.

‘Tag-less’ Tag Sale at All Souls Church
WEST BRATTLEBORO — All Souls Church Unitarian Universalist will hold its annual “Tag-less” Tag Sale Saturday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This sale will feature plenty of clothing, household items, books, toys, home decor, and more.
There are no price tags; all items are offered by donation. Proceeds will support special projects at the church. Try an inflatable paddleboard with the Rockingham Library
SAXTONS RIVER — On Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., come try out an inflatable stand-up paddleboard in a volunteer-guided program hosted by the Rockingham Free Public Library.
Meet at the Saxtons River Recreation area,75 Pleasant Valley Rd.,and practice inflating the boards and paddling together. All equipment is provided free (grown-ups only).

Artist talk at Putney Public Library
PUTNEY — Join Mahsa R. Fard for an artist talk at Putney Public Library, 55 Main St., Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Fard was born in Tehran, Iran, and is a Brooklyn-based artist who says her work explores memory, identity, and the emotional tension between private and public spaces, shaped by her experience as a woman growing up in Iran. Her paintings often depict solitary figures in intimate interiors or overgrown Persian gardens, accompanied by recurring women busts drawn from her personal sketches and quiet witnesses that carry layered histories.
Fard’s process blends planned composition with intuitive shifts. She often begins with source images that transform significantly through memory and emotion. Her use of color emerges instinctively, with tones like red and green carrying psychological and symbolic weight across her work.
She received her BFA in Art and Architecture from Azad University in Tehran in 2014 and her MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019.
Food, antique vehicles featured in Grafton
GRAFTON — The Grafton Historical Society and The Inn at Grafton Inn host the annual Grafton Food & Antique Tractor/Car/Truck Festival Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grafton Trails Outdoor Center.
Events include tractor wagon rides, a barbecue with burgers, bratts, hot dogs, beverage, and desserts, food and craft vendors, fresh squeezed lemonade, cotton candy, shaved ice, a pie eating contest and a Mac & Cheese cook off.
To enter the Mac & Cheese Cook Off, bring 2 pounds of pasta in your favorite Mac & Cheese recipe by 11:30 a.m. Judging will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with prizes awarded at 1 p.m. To enter, contact grafhist@vermontel.net.
Storytellers wanted for Newfane event
NEWFANE — The Historical Society of Windham County invites storytellers with 5 to 7 minute tales about Windham County or one of 23 towns to contact them.
A storytelling event will be held in the Union Hall in Newfane (the County Seat) on Oct. 24 and 25. Those with a story to share about a historical figure from the area, or who would like to impersonate that figure must submit all story ideas by Sept. 4.
