LONDONDERRY-On Sunday, August 30, at 4 p.m. at The Second Congregational Church, Nordic Harmoni, The Buzzards, and soloists from the community will perform an afternoon of music to benefit the Londonderry Neighbors Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted at the door.
Nordic Harmoni claims they are the only Swedish-American chorus in southern Vermont sharing Scandinavian heritage and traditions. They welcome all interested singers to join them for rehearsals at the Second Congregational Church in Londonderry, where they sing both in English (70%) and Swedish (30%). The Neighbors Pantry is a not-for-profit organization that has been serving eight Mountain community towns (Londonderry, South Londonderry, Jamaica, Landgrove, Peru, Weston, Winhall, and Windham) since 1988. The Neighbors Pantry distributes food and other supplies to any community member in need residing in the above towns. Operating hours are on the first and third Friday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m. Emergency distributions are also available.
This all-volunteer organization relies on contributions from community members to fund all expenses. Organizers say demand has steadily increased over the past few years.
“As we are all experiencing, food costs are inflationary in general, resulting in increased costs to procure the food needed for the community,” they said in a news release. “Significant budget cuts at the federal level earlier this year have reduced funding for state food banks and programs addressing food insecurity.”
