BRATTLEBORO-Next Stage Arts invites audiences of all ages to celebrate the creative talent of southern Vermont and the surrounding region at the Homegrown Festival, coming to West River Park on Route 30 in Brattleboro Sunday, Aug. 30.
Part of the Bandwagon Summer Series, the festival begins at 4 p.m., with gates opening at 3 p.m., and features an afternoon of eclectic music, circus arts, dancing, food, and community.
Headlining the festival are The Gaslight Tinkers, whose sound fuses African, Caribbean, funk, reggae, and Latin grooves with traditional New England fiddle and Celtic influences.
“Known for their electrifying live performances,” wrote organizers in a news release, “the Gaslight Tinkers combine vibrant rhythms, rich melodies, and infectious energy into a celebration that draws audiences onto their feet.”
Adding a visual dimension to the afternoon, the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) will present a dynamic student showcase.
Featuring aerialists and acrobats trained at Brattleboro’s internationally recognized circus school, the performance highlights emerging talent and the scope of circus arts. Audiences can expect high-flying feats, creative movement, and “plenty of wow-worthy moments for the whole family,” said organizers.
Rounding out the musical lineup, Zara Bodé’s Little Big Band brings swing, jazz, and vintage country to the stage. Led by Zara Bodé, the ensemble puts a fresh spin on classic American song, drawing inspiration from legends including Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald.
“With her velvety voice, impeccable phrasing, and magnetic stage presence,” said organizers, Bodé and her band “offer music equally suited to listening, dancing, and savoring the golden age of American popular song.”
Tickets are $28 in advance, $32 at gate, with kids under 12 admitted free. Advance tickets are available at nextstagearts.org. Food will be available onsite from Mama T’s Sweet Spot and AlpineGlo Farm Taqueria.
