BRATTLEBORO-Three area choruses will join to perform the hour-long oratorio A Passion for the Planet Saturday, Oct. 3., at 7 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre, 50 Main St.
The Brattleboro Concert Choir, Connecticut Choral Artists (CONCORA), and the Brattleboro Music Center (BMC) Children’s Chorus will perform the 11-movement piece, composed by Geoffrey Hudson, which addresses climate change from multiple emotional perspectives. The combined choruses comprise hundreds of voices, according to a news release.
A Passion for the Planet “traces an emotional arc,” organizers said in the release. It begins by “praising the Earth for being plentiful and providing for all people,” and later explores “the dark realities” before moving toward hope and reverence, the release said.
“Hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up,” the ninth movement begins, adapting writings by environmental scholar David Orr.
The composition “is both gorgeous and provoking,” said Jonathan Harvey, director of the Brattleboro Concert Choir, in the news release. “To be able to help share it with our community is a true privilege.”
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, $10 for youth 13 to 21 years of age, and free for those 12 and younger. Tickets are available at bmcvt.org or by contacting the BMC at 802-257-4523 or info@bmcvt.org.
