Vietnam War poet Doug Anderson to read ahead of Veterans Day

BRATTLEBORO-Poet and memoirist Doug Anderson will read from his new poetry collection Sunday, November 8, at 2 p.m. at ByWay Books & More, 399 Canal St.

Anderson’s latest book, There Was Always Smoke: New and Selected Poems, reflects on his service as a combat medic during the Vietnam War.

His writing “captures the lingering trauma of those days in poems whose topics range from alcoholism to love,” according to the publisher, Saturnalia Books.

Anderson has taught at the University of Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut State University, and other institutions, and his awards have included a Pushcart Prize as well as fellowships from MacDowell and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The reading is intended as an early observance of Veterans Day, which falls on Nov. 11 each year.

Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 802-490-8014.
