BRATTLEBORO — Mardi Gras will come early in Brattleboro, as a midwinter celebration is planned on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 118 Elliot in Brattleboro, to raise funds for a local nonprofit, MANOS, which teaches neonatal resuscitation to Nicaraguan health care providers.
Festivities run from 7 to 11 p.m., and tickets are $10 to $20 on a sliding scale.
MANOS (Maternal and Neonatal Outreach Services) is planning a return trip to Nicaragua this April. Members will partner with Nicaraguan medical professors to teach health care providers simple, life-saving steps developed to save the lives of newborns in resource-poor environments.
Bayou X is led by Pete and Linda Simoneaux, who play a mix of original and traditional Louisiana Cajun/Creole dance music and music of the global Creole diaspora.
In addition to live Cajun music, there will be red beans and rice, a cash bar, and a raffle with prizes, plus a mini-Cajun dance lesson. Costumes and fancy dress are encouraged.
Other upcoming community events to support MANOS are an Express Fluency Spanish language film series at the Latchis Theater on Jan. 31 and March 6, and an Elliot Street Fish, Chips & More Feeding Friendzy on March 2. For more information, visit www.manosoutreach.org.
