WEST BRATTLEBORO — New England Youth Theatre's Theatre Adventure presents Jill & Jack and the Beanstalk, at 10:30 a.m. on May 15, 16, and 17 at the West Village Meeting House, 29 South St.
Imagination rules in this classic fairy tale where wit, determination, and love triumph over a villainous giant.
A dancing cow, a trickster peddler, a singing harp, and a magical hen are only a few of the characters Jill and Jack encounter in their quest to help Jack's mother. Their journey leads them to the unknown cloud world where danger and excitement abound.
To tell this tale, performers of diverse ages, interests, talent, needs, and abilities will employ shadow puppetry, projections, dancing, singing, and acting.
Theatre Adventure actors create theater that turns traditional roles upside down, presenting a fresh take on familiar stories and “challenging audiences to open their thinking and delight in the unexpected,” according to a news release.
To honor audience members with special sensory needs, each performance is “sensory-friendly.” Before the show begins, the director will discuss the lights, sounds, costumes, and characters of the play in order to support the comfort of audience members. A break room will be provided if needed for any audience member, and a social story is available before the performance, upon request.
People of all abilities are welcome in the audiences of all Theatre Adventure performances. ASL interpreting is provided for all performances, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
