BRATTLEBORO — Write Action announced its annual Poetry and Prose Writing Contest.
There is no theme this year. Entries in poetry and prose will be judged anonymously. The first-place winners in each category will be awarded $100, second-place winners get $50, and third-place winners $25 each. All will have the opportunity to read at this year's Literary Festival.
Each category will be judged by an esteemed writer from the Vermont writing community. Eligible writers must live in southern Vermont or the tri-state region of southeastern Vermont.
All entries must be postmarked by July 10.
Writers may submit up to three prose pieces (first one is free, $5 for each additional), and/or up to four one-page poems (first two poems are free, $5 for each additional).
Email entries as one document (except cover letter sent as separate document) to booksfromvermont@yahoo.com, with WA Contest in the subject line, or send a hard copy of the submission to Write Action Contest, P.O. Box 822, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
Prose items will be limited to 1,500 words (please double-space);
Poems are limited to one page each (may be single-spaced), with no more than one poem to a page, each to be judged separately.
The author's name shouldn't appear in any form on the submitted piece(s), only on one cover page for all poetry and one cover page for all prose submissions, listing titles and with phone number, email address, and postal address also included on cover page only, for anonymous judging.
Entries that don't conform to the guidelines will be disqualified. Email info@writeaction.org with any questions.
