BRATTLEBORO-The circumstances brought on by the MAGA elites in our nation threaten every ordinary American with economic losses. But more importantly, we all face the loss of civil rights, democracy, the rule of law, and representative government to fascistic elites.
This is not a fire drill. This is actually happening right now and will continue, especially if the president declares martial law on or after April 20, when he has demanded a report from the secretary of defense and the national security leadership.
It is no coincidence that April 20 is Adolf Hitler's birthday. Although it is also a holy day for some Christians, we must not neglect the significance of these fascist symbols appearing in our society.
On April 19, there will be a major demonstration of opposition to this fascist takeover across the country. I urge all persons of good will to participate to send the message that we hold our freedoms and democracy dear.
Should the president invoke martial law, we will need to work harder to be in communication with one another. We also need to join in a general strike against this lawless administration's actions.
When the government and so-called representatives have usurped the power of the people, those in France have found that the general strike is an effective way to get the attention of the government and to change the course of the country.
We too need to work for this.
