BRATTLEBORO-The annual Vermont Homelessness Awareness/Action Day takes place statewide on Tuesday, May 6, with a local event at Pliny Park at the corner of Main and High streets at 4 p.m.
"Join us in community as we honor the lives affected by homelessness, stand together for change, and celebrate compassion and connection," organizers wrote in a news release. "The event will include a ceremony of remembrance of those who have died unhoused, a call to action, poetry, singing, and shared reflections; and refreshments and flowers to nourish body and spirit."
Organized by the Community Homelessness Strategy Team of the Housing Coalition of Southeast Vermont in collaboration with the Housing and Homelessness Alliance of Vermont, this vigil will bring together homeless and formerly homeless Vermonters, service providers, homelessness and housing advocates, faith communities, and other concerned citizens from Windham County.
This is one of many events taking place across Vermont on Homelessness Awareness/Action Day. There will also be a flag display on the lawn of the Brattleboro Municipal Center representing the number of individuals in Southern Windham County who were unhoused during 2024. The flags will be put in place on the morning of Tuesday, May 6, and remain for a week.
