Sun Day to be celebrated on Sept. 20

BELLOWS FALLS-"Sun Day," Saturday, Sept. 20, is a global day of action celebrating the rise of clean energy and the movement to leave fossil fuels behind.

"Timed with the fall equinox - a moment of transition - people will come together to showcase the power of the sun and wind, the energy sources that can power the world without pollution or profiteering," said organizers in a news release.

The Windham-Windsor (Win-Win) regional group of Third Act Vermont is hosting a tour of local solar installations in these two counties to celebrate Sun Day.

Visitors can start at the Waypoint Center in Bellows Falls and pick up a copy of the tour description and map, as well as learn about "going solar" and about local work toward setting up a thermal energy network in town. Refreshments will be served.

The self-guided tour directs visitors to solar-powered homes and institutions, including six houses, Sojourns Community Health Clinic, the Westminster Center Elementary School, and the First Universalist Parish of Chester in the historic Stone Village district.

The tour ends at the church with a short program at 4 p.m. State Senator Becca White, who represents Windsor County, will host a discussion about the future of solar energy in Vermont.
