WEST BRATTLEBORO-California-based, activist singer-songwriting duo Emma's Revolution will perform a benefit concert Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 29 South St.
The concert is a benefit for SoVT 4 Palestine and All Souls Church.
"In this intense and unprecedented time, when lives are on the line in Gaza, and our rights, norms and democracy are on the line here in the U.S.," the duo said in a news release, "all of our voices are needed to create the country and the world we want to live in."
SoVT 4 Palestine describes itself as "an organically formed group of people who currently reside in Southern Vermont and Western Massachusetts who cannot sit idly by while crimes are being carried out in Gaza by the state of Israel with the backing of the U.S. government. We are a proud member of the Vermont Coalition for Palestinian Liberation."
Known for fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies one "can't resist singing," Emma's Revolution is the award-winning activist duo of Pat Humphries and Sandy O. Performances feature the duo's signature harmonies and acoustic instruments, in songs that span from folk to jazz and funk to rock.
In the spirit of Emma Goldman's famous attribution, "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution," Emma's Revolution carries on in the spirit of their mentor, the late Pete Seeger. "Activist musicians inherit a legacy of the indivisibility of truth-telling and soul-stirring," Humphries explained. "We sing stories steeped in the rich legacy of freedom, the triumph of overcoming, [and] the grief of injustice, weaving stories, melodies, and harmonies in a rich alchemy of vintage genres and emerging sounds to create an experience full of heart, hope and motivation ... especially in a time like this."
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Advance tickets are available at ascvt.org/SoVT4P and at Everyone's Books at 25 Elliot St.
