Musicians from Marlboro to perform at BMC

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Music Center Chamber Series welcomes Musicians from Marlboro - Group I Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m.

This ensemble is led by senior violinist Itamar Zorman, of the Lysander Trio, along with Clara Newbauer, violin; Hiroki Kasai and Ao Peng, viola; Oliver Herbert, cello; and Donovan Bown, oboe.

The program features Britten's Phantasy Op. 2 for string trio and oboe, his first work to gain major international recognition, as well as Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8, a work dedicated to the victims of war and fascism. The program concludes with the youthful brilliance of the 16-year-old Felix Mendelssohn's String Quintet No. 1 in A major.

As the New York Classical Review notes of a recent performance by this Musicians from Marlboro ensemble: "One often hears musicians in total coordination, the elements of a piece coming together with satisfaction in a way that highlights the mechanics of the composition. But it is a far greater thing, and much rarer, to hear musicians who have so completely incorporated the music that it sounds like independent voices speaking with each other in total understanding and concert."

Tickets are $30 general admission and are available at bmcvt.org, 802-257-4523, and info@bmcvt.org.
