Sarasa Ensemble presents ‘All in the Family’ Bach concert at BMC May 8

BRATTLEBORO-The Sarasa Ensemble takes a closer look at the extended Bach family and its many musical talents in a performance at the Brattleboro Music Center (BMC), 72 Blanche Moyse Way, titled “All in the Family,” Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m.

The program highlights works for oboe, strings, and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach and family members — sons Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel, second cousin Johann Bernhard, and wife Anna Magdalena.

“Johann Sebastian Bach belongs to a family that seems to have received a love and aptitude for music as a gift of Nature to all its members in common,” said C.P.E. Bach in 1754.

Musicians for this performance include Daniel Bates, oboe; Christina Day Martinson, Rebecca Nelson, and Danilo Bonina, violin; Anna Griffis, viola; Jennifer Morsches and Timothy Merton, cello; and John McKean, harpsichord.

A collective of international instrumentalists and vocalists, the Sarasa Ensemble performs classical music spanning the 17th to the 21st centuries, on both period and modern instruments, and brings this music to diverse communities.

Tickets are $20 for advance general admission, $25 at the door and are available on the Brattleboro Music Center website—bmcvt.org,—by calling 802-257-4523, or emailing info@bmcvt.org.
