Eastes: a commonsense approach to legislation

The writer chairs the Vernon Democratic Town Committee.

VERNON-I've known Zon Eastes for a few years, and watching him work during his first term in Montpelier proved he is exactly the kind of thoughtful, grounded neighbor we need representing Vernon and Guilford.

Zon doesn't get caught up in partisan posturing; he simply listens to what our communities are up against and gets to work on practical fixes.

You can see that commonsense approach running straight through his legislative record:

• When our neighbors were struggling to find local mental health care outside of overcrowded emergency rooms, Zon sponsored H.227 to help establish a residential peer respite facility right here in southern Vermont.

• Serving on the Human Services Committee, he also backed H.112 to shield working families from predatory medical debt collection, ensuring an unexpected health crisis doesn't wipe out someone's livelihood.

• And after seeing destructive storms wash out our roads and bridges year after year, he supported H.397 - enacted as Act 57 - to overhaul state emergency coordination and direct real infrastructure funding to rural towns like ours.

Whether he's chatting with us over coffee at the Broad Brook Community Center, checking in at the Vernon Free Library, or showing up at community events across our two towns, Zon stays connected to the everyday realities of Windham-1.

Please join me in casting your vote to re-election.
