Concert to benefit The Root, Black Lives Matter VT

GUILFORD — On Wednesday, April 5, local congregations and civic organizations will come together to support “Let Justice Roll Down,” a concert and sing-along at Guilford Community Church at 38 Church Rd. in a benefit for Black Lives Matter VT and the Root Social Justice Center.

The concert will feature Lea Gilmore, a blues-gospel singer and civic activist who has lent her voice, literally and figuratively, to advocacy for the underserved of the world for many years. Essence named her one of the “25 Women Shaping the World” in 2005. She has worked to advance racial justice and bridge divides in her native Baltimore and around the world.

Accompanying Gilmore will be award-winning blues pianist and vocalist Professor Louie.

Also featured are Annie Patterson and Peter Blood, musicians and songbook editors. They are nationally recognized for their work in creating the songbooks Rise Up Singing and Rise Again. The Guilford Church Choir and the music group House Blend will also perform.

The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will celebrate the work of regional groups for social justice. It is one of six similar events throughout New England.
