Rockingham Meeting House to host concerts of traditional American music

ROCKINGHAM — The Rockingham Meeting House will host a series of concerts this summer featuring area artists performing traditional American music. Concerts will be held on the third Sunday of each month, beginning at 3 p.m.

First on tap June 16 are Erik Johannson and Kathi Byam offering traditional tunes on harp and flute.

The next concert in the series, on July 21, will feature Andy and Lois Buchan with music for fife and drum.

On Aug. 18, the Comtu Trio will present a program of Early American music arranged for organ, cello, and flute.

The Saxtons River Bell Ringers will conclude the series on Sept. 15.

Admission is free. Free-will donations will go toward the musicians' time and talents.

Constructed between 1787 and 1801, the meeting house is a designated National Historic Landmark and the oldest public building in Vermont that still exists in a condition close to its original state.

The meeting house is owned by the town of Rockingham and operated as a museum, with skilled docents on hand to offer additional information about the architecture and history of the building. It is located just north of the village of Bellows Falls and Exit 6 of Interstate 91, just off Vermont Route 103.

The building is wheelchair-accessible but doesn't comply fully with ADA requirements. For more information, contact the Rockingham Historic Preservation Commission at clg@rockbf.org.
