Townshend School Club hosts third annual Trunk or Treat
TOWNSHEND - The Townshend School Club will sponsor "a spooktacular evening of family fun" Friday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. on Townshend Common. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy a night of treats, creativity, and community.
The public can sign up to decorate their car's trunk; participation is free. Space is limited to 30 vehicles around the Common, so early reservation is encouraged. There will be a prize for the Best Dressed Trunk.
Setup begins at 4 p.m., with Trunk or Treating starting at 6 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to assist families crossing Route 35 from the Leland & Gray parking area to the Common. Candy donations are also welcome. Email darcywest75@gmail.com for more information.
Halloween Dance at Pierce's Hall Oct. 25
EAST PUTNEY - There will be Halloween Dance at haunted Pierce's Hall on Saturday, Oct 25. Costumes welcome. The dance begins with family circle and other easy dances at 6 p.m. After a break with snacks at 7 p.m., the traditional Pierce's Hall Contra Dance follows at 7:30 p.m. (last waltz at 9:30).
Dances are always taught. The Family Hour is free, while the Contra Dance is by donation Pierce's Hall, 121 East Putney Falls Rd., which is 2.5 miles north on Route 5 from the Putney General Store. Turn onto East Putney Falls Road and go one-half mile. Look for the "Dance!" signs.
Spooky Booky Spectacular at CCV
BRATTLEBORO - Join CCV-Brattleboro on Thursday, Oct. 30, for the Spooky Booky Spectacular. This family-friendly event will feature a Stephen King–themed scavenger hunt, Halloween crafts, and stories with Everywhere Philosophy, and a variety of activities and prizes. Food will be available for purchase from 802 Soul Kitchen.
This event is free and will be held at Harmony Place from 4 to 6 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Haunted house in downtown Bellows Falls
BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Opera House will offer tours of "the scariest place in Bellows Falls" for one night only, Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m.
The hallowed halls and catacombs beneath the Opera House will be open to visitors to raise funds for the Town Hall lower theater renovation project. This event is sponsored by the Bellows Falls Downtown Alliance.
Organizers say there will be two options: "low scare" from 5 to 6 p.m., and "full scare" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. They suggest a donation of $10 per person. All profits will go toward the lower theater renovation project to include electrical and plumbing upgrades with a commercial kitchen available for community use. The town of Rockingham has applied for a T-Mobile Hometown Grant to help fund the project, and donations raised will support that match.
Halloween in Guilford Center Village
GUILFORD - Witches, monsters, fairy tale creatures, animals, and other ghosts and ghouls are invited to Trick or Treat the six homes and library in Guilford Center Village on Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 6 p.m.
At 6 p.m., Laura Lawson Tucker and Bob Tucker lead a parade around the library lawn, then will circle everyone up to enjoy spooky songs, stories, and fingerplays in a presentation geared for the younger set (babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and grades 1–4).
The library will give away a free new book to each child, and the Friends of the Guilford Free Library will distribute craft kits. Parking will be available at the library and the Broad Brook Community Center. The library bathroom will be available.
Guilford Center Road will be lined with luminaria, and volunteers will help with traffic control to keep the event safe. Participants may want to bring a flashlight or headlamp. For more information, visit bit.ly/837-guil-hallow.
Trunk or Treat and haunted house in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE - On Friday, Oct, 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., Whitingham Free Public Library hosts a Trunk or Treat and haunted house in the Route 112 parking lot (across from the church).

Halloween Horribles Parade and BrattleBOO set for Oct. 31
BRATTLEBORO - On Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., participating shops and restaurants will be ready for trick-or-treaters as part of BrattleBOO, "a frightfully fun Halloween in downtown Brattleboro." Look for the BrattleBOO pumpkin decals on their doorways. There will also be a photo booth at Insight Photography, and Retreat Farm will be at Pliny Park with a pop-up, featuring goats in costume.
At 6 p.m., the Horribles Parade will kick off, starting at the Brattleboro Food Co-op/Whetstone Pathway and marching down Main Street to the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St., where a Trunk-or-Treat event will be waiting in the back parking lot.
The cars participating in the Trunk or Treat are owned and staffed by members of local organizations and Brattleboro businesses. The cars will be handing out candy, small treats, and other surprises while supplies last. They will also be handing out free popcorn. Marcel and his team from 802 Soul Kitchen will be selling food.
