Brooks Library launches technology support series

BRATTLEBORO — Brooks Memorial Library, 224 Main St., announces the introduction of “Talking About Tech,” a monthly drop-in opportunity where technology users bring their questions and their advice about electronic devices and how to get the most from them.

Intended as an interactive gathering — a bit like a book club, crossed with a crafting group, with a touch of a drop-in bike repair clinic — each session will begin with a 30-minute presentation on a tech topic of interest, followed by an hour for mutual tech support on the focus topic, other areas of need such as password maintenance, or discussion of trends in technology like A.I. Attendee input will help guide the content.

The initial gathering will take place Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in meeting Room D. Matthew Wojcik, the library’s electronic services specialist, will provide an overview of the streaming video, e-book, and audiobook platforms available for free with your Brooks Memorial Library card. Users of all levels of experience and expertise are encouraged to attend.

“Come if you’re curious about tech, need help with your tech, or if you’re tech-savvy and interested in helping your neighbors and peers. Maybe you have the answer someone else is looking for,” Wojcik said in a news release. “Bring your phone, tablet, or laptop. Did you get a new device over the holidays? The informal group support time after the presentation will be the perfect time to show it off, or learn how to turn it on.”

The program is free. All are invited, and the event venue is accessible to people in wheelchairs. For more information, contact the library at 802-254-5290 or visit brookslibraryvt.org.
