Eastes has served Windham-1 well in his first term

GUILFORD-Zon Eastes's first term representing Windham-1 in the State House of Representatives has shown that he is a good listener and a tireless public servant.

He worked in the bipartisan effort to keep the state budget below the inflation rate and to significantly reduce the average property tax without leaving schools hurting.

In the struggle over school consolidation, he was deeply committed to avoiding forced mergers, supporting the successful bill to preserve the character of local schools with the aid of creatively combined regional resources. (If a merger of neighboring schools does occur, it is only at the recommendation of local committees and voters.)

In the last session, after hearing concern from a Guilford constituent, Zon introduced a bill making it easier for landowners to keep their property off limits to hunting and fishing. It was signed into law by Gov. Scott on April 30.

Zon has been involved in other statewide issues as well and issues at the county level. He and other Windham County legislators have met regularly with Brattleboro Memorial Hospital leaders on the need to keep the birthing center. He is also monitoring any sign of corporate plans for the former Vernon Vermont Yankee site, including how citizen input can be prioritized.

He holds regular information sessions for his constituents and shows up regularly at community activities, always thoughtful and ready to learn from others.

We are fortunate that Zon wants to continue his good work. Let's keep a fine representative where he belongs!
